Actor Michael Wright’s wife announces death of ‘beloved’ husband

  • Actor Michael Wright, best known for playing Eddie King Jr in the 1991 musical drama The Five Heartbeats, has died at the age of 70.
  • His family confirmed he died in Los Angeles on Wednesday after suffering heart failure coupled with complications from Marchiafava-Bignami disease, a rare, progressive neurological disorder.
  • His wife, Susan, paid tribute to her “beloved” husband on Friday, describing him as “an extraordinary artist whose work touched generations.”
  • Wright made his feature film debut in 1979's The Wanderers and went on to win the Volpi Cup for Best Actor for his performance in Streamers in 1983.
  • His extensive screen credits also included the sci-fi franchise V, HBO's prison drama Oz, Sugar Hill, and the series Black Lightning.
