- A popular cream bun sold in South Korean convenience stores was recalled after customers complained of a "foul" smell, which some likened to "sewer or human faeces".
- An investigation revealed that durian flavouring had been mistakenly used in the buns instead of melon, causing the pungent odour.
- The error stemmed from the flavour supplier, who mislabelled durian essence as melon, leading the manufacturer, Foodcore, to use the incorrect ingredient.
- Durian, often called the "king of fruits", is known for its intensely strong smell and is frequently banned on public transport and in hotels across Southeast Asia.
- Around 20,000 units of the misflavoured buns were distributed before a full recall was initiated, with refunds and exchanges processed, and correctly flavoured products now back on sale.
