News anchor pleads guilty to stabbing her 80-year-old mom she believed was ‘the devil’

(Fox 2 St Louis)
  • Former news anchor Angelynn Mock pleaded guilty to first-degree murder for stabbing her 80-year-old mother, Anita Avers, to death on Halloween last year.
  • Police arrested Mock at her home in Wichita, Kansas, where her mother was found with multiple stab wounds to her face, neck, torso, and arms.
  • Mock claimed her mother attacked her first while spewing venom and later told police officers she believed her mother was the devil. “I had to kill her, she wasn’t going to stop,” Mock said, per the affidavit, claiming her mother was “jealous” of a job opportunity that had come up.
  • Mock's stepfather reported that she had been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder and had previously lost her journalism job following an alcohol-related incident.
  • After a court reversed an earlier ruling that deemed her incompetent to stand trial, Mock entered her guilty plea and is scheduled for sentencing on October 5.
