Firebomb attack suspect opposed AI and had list of tech execs, police say
- The suspect accused of throwing a Molotov cocktail at OpenAI CEO Sam Altman's home and threatening the company's headquarters in San Francisco opposed artificial intelligence, according to police.
- Authorities allege Daniel Moreno-Gama, 20, traveled from Texas, driven by his strong opposition to artificial intelligence and belief in its risk to humanity, to try and kill Altman.
- He faces multiple charges, including two counts of attempted murder and attempted arson in California state court, and federal charges for possessing an unregistered firearm and property damage by explosives.
- Investigators found a document on him in which he “identified views opposed to AI and the executives of various AI companies,” court documents say. FBI officials stated the attack was “planned, targeted and extremely serious,” though no one was injured in the incidents.
